CMRS Approves Hyderabad Metro for Commercial Operations

L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited today announced that it has received an approval from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for starting commercial operations on Line-1 and Line-3’s 10.55 km SR Nagar – Ameerpet – Mettuguda stretch in the run up to the system’s inauguration on November 28.

The local CMRS from the Indian Railways’ South-Central Circle had conducted a 3-day final inspection of that stretch between November 17-19 – see some images here. With this development, about 30 kms of Phase-1’s 72 km route (see map) have been approved for operations across two elevated lines which meet at Ameerpet Interchange Station

• Line-1: Miyapur – Ameerpet (approx. 12.20 km)
Stations – Miyapur, JNTU, KPHB Colony, Kukatpally, Balanagar, Moosapet, Bharat Nagar, Erragadda, ESI Hospital, SR Nagar and Ameerpet (Interchange)

Line-3: Nagole – Ameerpet (approx. 17.60 km)
Stations – Nagole, Uppal, Survey of India, NGRI, Habsiguda, Tarnaka, Mettuguda, Secunderabad East, Parade Grounds, Paradise, Rasoolpura, Prakash Nagar, Begumpet and Ameerpet (Interchange)

As per L&TMRHL’s press release –

After checking various systems, CMRS has issued authorisation for the opening of Mettuguda to SR Nagar via Ameerpet Interchange Metro Station.

“This authorisation will enable us to operate the Metro trains from Nagole to Miyapur via Ameerpet Interchange Metro Station seamlessly. CMRS approval for the Stage 1 – Nagole to Mettuguda and Stage 2 – Miyapur to SR Nagar have already been authorised for commissioning. This is a great moment for team LTMRHL and its partners, who have worked incessantly to make this happen. The complete stretch from Nagole to Miyapur via Ameerpet Interchange Metro Station, would be ready for operations and minor pending works would be completed shortly” – Shivanand Nimbargi, MD & CEO, LTMRHL

Like always, the approval would have been conditional and subject to certain conditions / stipulations being met. I’ll update this post whenever those conditions, their type or number is known.

Thanks for the update. L&T did a great job in completing this part, especially in the last 2-3 months. If not for govt’s line alignment changes and other obstacles, entire phase 1 (72 KM) would have been by now. Amount of work done by L&T for the first 3 years (2012-2015) was exceptional despite different local issues.

Anyway, happy to see the first stretch completing and metro becoming operational. I am sure the remaining 36 KM will be operational by end of 2018 as the elections are due in early 2019.

Absolutely! They’ve been on fire in these past few months. Reminds me of BMRCL’s push to complete Phase 1 earlier this year.
