DPR for Hyderabad Metro’s Phase 2 Submitted to Telangana Govt

Speaking to a local media channel on February 25, NVS Reddy – the managing director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) revealed that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Hyderabad Metro’s Phase 2 project was ready and had been submitted to the Telangana state government for its cabinet’s approval.

The Phase 2 project will include 3 elevated corridors or extensions of the existing lines built in the 67 km Phase 1 project. Besides the terminals of each and the neighborhoods it’ll pass through, the MD hasn’t revealed any further information.

Here’s the video. Skip to 4:30 to hear the MD talk about it –

The new plan totaling approximately 58 km is radically different than the 83 km Phase 2 plan revealed in 2015. Here are the 3 lines mentioned in the video –

(1) Raidurg to RGI Airport line – an approximately 31 km extension of the Blue Line passing through Gachibowli and Himayathsagar via the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to connect up with Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad.

(2) Miyapur – Lakdikapul line – an approximately 22 km extension of the Red Line connecting Miyapur – BHEL – Kondapur – Gachibowli – Raidurg – Mehdipatnam – Masab Tank – Lakdi Ka Pul (located also on the Red Line) intersecting itself to form a small ring for the north-west quadrant of the city.

(3) Nagole – LB Nagar – an approximately 5 km southern extension of the Blue Line from Nagole to connect with LB Nagar on the Red Line. Both stations at LB Nagar will likely be connected via foot overbridge (FOB).

I’ve mapped all 3 of them out here in blue color –

Route Map of Hyderabad Metro’s Phase 2 Project (in blue) which’ll be an extension of Phase 1‘s lines (in red)

With this development, the following lines revealed in 2015 are now officially off the table –

Red Line Extn – LB Nagar – Hayathnagar (7 km)
Red Line Extn – Miyapur – BHEL – Patancheru (13 km)
Blue Line Extn – Nagole – LB Nagar – Falaknuma – Shamshabad Airport (28 km)
New Line – Tarnaka – ECIL (7 km)

All Phase 1 works ended with the recent opening of the 9.6 km Green Line (JBS Parade Ground – MGBS). For Phase 2’s execution, the ball is now entirely in the state government’s court. Ideally the DPR should have been prepared and sent a year ago to hash out all government / red-tape issues and avoid the gap in construction work.

    Dear HMRL Team

Why are we so silent on the Old City Extention, why are we not transparent, will the old City Public see the day of light in the form of Metro in their proximity, OR the govt don’t have any plans but to just keep postponing the same time and again

    Dear,

Mehdipatnam already has PVNR Express way from Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital and another Flyover or OverPass towards MasabTank at Welfare Centre or NMDC. So constructing an elevated Metro will be an engineering marvel might be 2 Tier or Side by Side Elevated Corridor. Lets see how things pan out in the future.

Mythrinagar station which is in btw Miyapur and BHEL shall be one engineering miracle in second phase of metro, if possible it needs a double storied flyover from leverage metro station to madeena guda keeping in view of upcoming inter terminal bus station.

Sir kindly extend metro fromLb nagar to peddamberpet or ramojifilm city bcz city is expanding that much …bcz tourist destination also is there.pls look into this
As well as Miyapur to Patancheru
And Raidurg to airport via Gachibowli
    And jbs to Tirumalagiri
My suggestion is till Outer Ring Road endings metro connection should be there, bcz lot of middle class and upper middle class &rich people purchasing homes near by outer ring road, right now it’s not may usefull, but within 5 years it will be usefull lot of people

    Sir,
Do consider the metro rail connectivity from secundrabad to ECIL as it the traffic movement has become more dense and the ONLY solution is the metro line connectivity, doing so can able to reduce the emission level of the city, emitted by the vehicles as it has increased due to the traffic congestion & there by protecting the green house, travel time, less fuel consumption as it is the hour of requirement, since the prices are sky rocketing.
Above all avoiding the road accidents & saving more n more lifes. That’s the best part giving back as a gift to the voters, expecting for BETTER TOMORROW.

Why the Metro Rail is not extending to till Patancheru where there is more potentiality and development. Everyday lot of commuters are traveling to City for the various purposes from the surrounding colonies near Patancheru, ICRISAT, Ashok Nagar, BHEL, RC Puram, Chandannagar, Madinaguda to till Miyapur. Incase if the Metro Rail is further extends from Miyapur to Patancheru that will be very much useful for them.
