J Kumar Awarded Mumbai Metro Line-2 & 7’s Station Facade Contracts

In a BSE filing, J Kumar Infraprojects today announced it had been awarded two external facade contracts for a total of 8 stations across Mumbai Metro’s 18.6 km Line-2A / Yellow Line (DN Nagar – Dahisar East) and 16.5 km Line-7 / Red Line (Andheri East – Dahisar East).

Mumbai Metro Line-2A’s contract for Package AC-14 with 4 stations at Goregaon, Adarsh Nagar, Shastri Nagar and D.N.Nagar was awarded by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) with a value of Rs. 41.17 crore.

DMRC had invited bids for four packages comprising a total of 17 stations in mid-June with a completion period of 6 months. Contracts for packages AC-11 and AC-12 were awarded to Godrej & Boyce on August 27 while NCC was awarded AC-13 on September 11.

Package DMRC/MU/LINE2/AC-14: External Facade Works of 04 (four) elevated stations i.e. Goregaon, Adarsh Nagar, Shastri Nagar and D.N.Nagar of Line 2A on Dahisar (East) to DN Nagar corridor of Mumbai Metro Rail Project, Mumbai.

  • DMRC’s Estimate: 38.66 crore
  • Lowest Bidder: J Kumar Infraprojects (Rs 42.49 crore) – 9.91% higher
  • 2nd Lowest Bidder: NCC (Rs 42.84 crore)
  • Final Negotiated Contract Value: Rs 41.17 crore

As shared earlier – Studio Archohm had released a small render of Mandapeshwar Station (formerly IC Colony) on Line-2. Here’s a new full blown render of it to give you an idea of how Line-2’s stations will look like.

Mumbai Metro Line-7’s contract for Package CA-99B with 4 stations at Aarey, Dindoshi, Kurar and Poisar was awarded by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) with a value of Rs. 49.83 crore.

MMRDA had invited bids for three packages comprising a total of 12 stations in May-end with a similar 6 month period of completion.

Financial bid values for either of those packages are not available at this time and I’ll update this section whenever I become aware. It can be safely deduced that J Kumar did not win contracts for the other packages (99A, 99C), and if I had to guess – either NCC or Godrej & Boyce likely won them.

Package MMRDA/MMRP/CA-99B: External Facade Works for 4 Elevated Stations viz: Aarey, Dindoshi, Kurar and Poisar of line 7 (Andheri East to Dahisar East) of Mumbai Metro Rail Project of MMRDA

Final Contract Value: Rs. 49.83 crore

Here’s a render of Line-7’s Akurli Station (formerly Bandongri) to give an idea of how this line’s stations will look like. Actual site images from May of facade works in an advanced stage of completion can be viewed here.

As shared earlier – with this development, local residents in Mumbai’s western suburbs should start seeing facade works commencing on both Line-2A and Line-7’s stations by November.

MMRDA is publicly chasing a May 2021 deadline to start operations on both lines, but likely has a different internal deadline since major civil work is still pending across both lines (see my Twitter page) and they’ll not have enough BEML train-sets (see delivery schedule) to operate a respectable high–frequency service.
