Steel Girders Erected for Bangalore Metro Phase 2 over NICE Road

With the transfer of land from Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise Ltd. (NICE) finally completed this June, workers from NCC Ltd. and Soma Enterprise Ltd. have over the past month launched steel girders over the NICE Peripheral Road, at its intersections with Mysore Road and Kanakapura Road, for constructing two sections of the 73.92 km Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project.

The land at both these spots, including additional spots at the intersections with Tumkur Road and Hosur Road, were stuck in litigation for over 3 years after the promoters of NICE did not agree with the compensation offered. With that issue resolved through the intervention of Karnataka’s Chief Minister in December 2019 and High Court’s ruling in June 2020, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) was able to give the go-ahead to its contractors to begin launching activity.

Purple Line’s Reach 2B

Workers from Soma Enterprise have so far launched two 55 meter steel girders on Mysore Road to connect Kengeri Station with the upcoming Challaghatta Depot and Inter Modal Integration Hub (IMIH) where a new station will be built as part of the line’s 8.814 km western extension.

STUP Consultants Pvt. Ltd. was awarded the depot’s Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contract in January and a tender notice for it – the final civil piece of the Phase 2 project – is currently pending.

Green Line’s Reach 4B

Workers from NCC have launched all four 50 meter girders on Kanakapura Road to connect the Green Line’s soon-to-be-opened Anjanapura Station with the upcoming Anjanapura Depot. BMRCL invited tenders (bids) to build this depot, at the extreme southern end of the line’s 6.29 km extension, in October and currently plans to open technical bids on November 25.

Hey TMRG, a number of civil packages for Phase-2 have been awarded to IL&FS and Simplex. Since these firms have been either liquidated or under a new management, what happened to these packages ? Are they have been retendered ?

From what I’ve heard – BMRCL’s engineers are directly working with IL&FS’ subcontractors on R2A.That section’s civil work is close to completion and testing is currently planned to start in summer 2021.

On R6, Simplex is still alive – work is underway although at a very slow pace. Not sure why BMRCL hasn’t cut the cord.

Recently BMRCL have announce, that they will continue the work with Simplex even after slow works. Maybe this one was a final warning for Simplex, but I think BMRCL should terminate contract with Simplex, I wonder why they Decide to stuck with Simplex. If they don’t work fast as per schedule, then just terminate him. MMRDA is an example of it, they immediately terminate continue with Simplex and RCC-MBZ JV due to same reason. If MMRDA can do this, then why not BMRCL?, remove Simplex from the contract and instead give work to good companies like J Kumar, NCC, L&T, ITD etc

The elevated section of R6 (pink line) being built by simplex is a small part. Its larger parts are the underground sections that will take long to complete.

The elevated part by itself will be of no use if completed faster, until at least Jayadeva interchange has been completed & trains start running on the yellow line so as to have an interchange to hook up the elevated part of pink line to the yellow line & thus, the network.

BMRC may have thought its not that critical & chose to avoid re-tendering & possibly higher construction costs. So, they continue with simplex.

There is another 3km section on the green line extension (R3C) that is also being done by simplex. Land (& demand for access roads by Anchepalya residents) were recently sorted out, apart from access at NICE road junction. Simplex has picked up some speed as pillars are now coming up there.

Do you know that status of the Yellow Line over NICE Road. I see pillars only till NICE on the Whitefeather side. Nothing between EC1 station and NICE.

That’s interesting. Work had apparently started there under police protection in June. Not sure why there isn’t visible progress by now.

NICE Authorities have stopped the works again in September 2020 due to some discrepancies in the land records.

They should close down Access to Nice road for a month like they did last year near Clover Leaf Junction.
When all the Black money dries up, Kheni will fall in line.

In Ph2, pink line will terminate at Nagawara but they will keep the option open for further expansion towards Aerospace park.

Is this the reason why Anjana pura section Reach 4B didn’t open on 1-11-2020 ? That means leave alone Rajyotsava. Even for Diwali this section will not open
