Jindal Wins Delhi & Mumbai Metro Line-6 Depots’ Track Contract

Jindal Steel and Power Ltd. (JSPL) today emerged as the lowest bidder to supply 3500 MT of 90 UTS, UIC 60, 13 m, Class “A” 880 Grade tracks for use across seven depots on the Delhi Metro’s network and Mumbai Metro’s upcoming 15.18 km Line-6 (Pink Line)’s Kanjurmarg Depot.

The scope of their work includes supplying 2000 MT to Delhi’s 6 existing depots for replacing or augmenting tracks at six depots, and 1500 MT to Mumbai where a depot east of Kanjurmarg Village will service and stable trains on the new Line-6 connecting Swami Samarth Nagar (Lokhandwala) with Vikhroli through 13 stations.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had invited bids for this package in July-end with an estimated value of Rs. 24.55 crore and 12 month period of completion. They opened technical bids in September to reveal JSPL and SAIL as the only two bidders.

Per the tender documents, the appointed manufacturer will be responsible for the production of these rails as per Indian Railway Specification T-12-2009, inspection & testing, loading, unloading, transportation & delivery to DMRC’s sites.

With the ongoing battle over developing Mumbai’s depots, it remains to be seen if the contract will be awarded as-is or amended to take Line-6’s depot out of its scope.

    Any updates on Navi Mumbai metro….. last year august metro had begin trial runs.

      Naah, no update. Haven’t heard or read anything about the path forward.

      System installation is underway at some stations, but that’s about it.
