Bids Invited for Chennai Metro Phase 2’s Madhavaram Depot

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) today invited tenders (bids) for the construction of a train depot at Madhavaram Milk Colony for Chennai Metro’s new 45.813 km Line-3 (Madhavaram – SIPCOT 2) and Line-5 (Madhavaram – Sholinganallur).

This is the second of two depots planned in the 118.9 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project for which bids have been invited. Prior to this, CMRL invited bids for Line-4’s Poonamallee Depot in January.

Design details such as the number of stabling, workshop, inspection lines wasn’t mentioned in the basic tender notice and remains unknown at this time.

Operations on Line-3 and Line-5 will also be supported via a new stabling yard at SIPCOT which is a part of Package C3-ECV-01 (Sholinganallur – SIPCOT 2).

With this development, all tender notices are out for civil construction works of the Phase 2 project – a list of all and their status can be viewed here. The main-lines’ final two tender notices were published last week for Line-4’s 10.13 km underground section (Light House – Power House Ramp).
