Bids Invited for Delhi Metro Silver Line’s DC-08 Underground Work

It has begun! Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today invited tenders for the construction of the first underground section of the Delhi Metro Phase 4’s new 23.622 km Silver Line which will connect Aerocity to Tughlakabad via 16 stations.

This 6.116 km section – part of Package DC-08 – between Aerocity and Kishangarh comprises of 6.11 km twin tunnels, to be built by tunnel boring machines, and 4 stations at Aerocity, Mahipalpur, Vasant Kunj and Kishangarh.

Its construction will be financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with whom the Government of India finally reached an agreement and signed a Rs 8,390 crore ODA loan in March towards financing 44 civil & system packages, some of which are already in motion.

Brief Scope: Design and Construction of Twin Tunnel (Up & Down Line) by Shield TBM, Cut and Cover Tunnel box and four Underground stations namely Aerocity, Mahipalpur, Vasant Kunj and Kishangarh with Entry/Exits & Connecting subways from chainage (-) 760 mt. to 5356.285 mt. of Aerocity to Tughlakabad Corridor of Phase-IV of Delhi MRTS.

  • Completion Period: 42 months
  • Pre-Bid Meeting: 29-Apr-2021 at 11 AM AM
  • Bid Submission End Date: 31-May-2021 at 3 PM

4 interesting callouts mentioned in the tender’s detailed scope – all pertaining to Aerocity:

  1. A crossover will be constructed by Cut & Cover method, in soil/rock/mix strata, west of Aerocity metro station (chainage -310.780 mt to – 125.000 mt)
  2. Silver Line’s tunnels will pass underneath the Airport Express Line’s tunnels west of Aerocity at chainage -560.780
  3. A permanent TBM launching shaft will be constructed at the extreme west-end (starting boundary of the contract) at chainage -760 m for extending the Silver Line’s tunnels beyond this point in the future to IGI Airport’s Terminal 1 Station to meet up with the Magenta Line
  4. Delhi – Alwar RRTS line’s Aerocity Station will be built east of the Silver Line’s station. Concourse level of Silver Line’s new station will be on the same level as the RRTS Station’s platform. This means that the Silver Line’s tunnels will go underneath the RRTS Station’s box.

I’ll be adding info pages for EDFC/WDFC, but that’s about it. For newer DFCs, I’ll cover contracts if possible.

Any chance that the grey will be extended to terminal 1 station? Does the line alignment at aerocity allow extension to that direction?

Grey Line is locked-in at Dwarka. Do you mean Silver Line? Tunnel alignment is positioned for IGI T1 extension – see point number 3 above.

They have installed steel girders over the piers, perhaps to save on time for this ultra small stretch. Seems like they are aiming for a September opening.

The cut-n-cover crossover is just west of the station box – so i assume it will be part of same deep excavation as that of the station. What’s the depth of rail level from ground?
Station right below the surface road – alternate road need to be constructed before station box excavation can commence.

What’s a “permanent” TBM launching shaft?…do you mean that DMRC won’t close this shaft until the tunnel extension to Terminal-1 is built?
Whilst this extension to T1 is desirable for certain commuters, wouldn’t it put the aero-train project in jeopardy? Looks like DMRC planners haven’t been able to make-up their mind on whether to connect silver line to T1 or not, so keeping the option open..

RRTS station going to be at (or almost at) the same level as that of Airport Exp line..

    Any info on Rangpuri depot?

Yes. This is the main objective of the permanent TBM Shaft. In Phase 3 DMRC have made a TBM launching shaft at Vikaspuri Park for the extn. Of Magenta Line from Janakpuri West to Botanical garden. After construction, the shaft will close unless they start construction of the tunnels from Shaft. That’s what called proper planning

      Crossover’s rail level is ~21.691m

Extension to T1 is still up in the air. It was approved by DMRC’s board and Delhi government, but not approved by CG. Interestingly the tender drawing above (in blue) says the extension’s tunnels are “part of Phase IV contract”. If a notice for its construction is not out by the time system tendering begins, then we can assume it won’t be constructed and the shaft will be closed off by DC-08’s contractor.

Delhi air train is proposed by DIAL. Think we can do with both, especially since T3 and T1 will still need a proper direct connection. I’d hate taking 2 trains (airport exp + silver) for such a short distance.

No news on Rangpuri Depot. Sarita Vihar Depot is going to be be repurposed for Silver’s trains. Maybe a tiny satellite stabling yard will come up at Rangpuri. Let’s see…

IGI have international airport so it’s very good value for india and overseas person will see 2 station in IGI T – 3.

It’s very proud news fo us and one day DMRC will cross 1000km distance from New York City metro.

    Best of luck DMRC.

    Hi,

Since the Sarita Vihar Depot is being re-purposed, a case can be made for connecting the Magenta Line through a spur towards the depot after the Kalindi Kunj station, following the canal road, and then onwards to connect with the Silver Line. Since DMRC will have to construct an extension of Silver Line to the depot anyways, the actual addition will be a relatively small one. It will open up possibilities of a whole new route, and provide a one seat ride to Noida for people living in that extreme South corridor of Delhi. I am guessing the trains on the Silver Line will be similar to Pink and Magenta. So interoperability of rakes should be possible.
