Altis-VCL Awarded Chennai Metro Poonamallee Depot’s Contract

Altis Holding Corporation – Varindera Constructions JV on October 20 was awarded a Rs. 187.48 crore contract for the civil construction of Chennai Metro Line-4’s Poonamallee Depot (Package DPT-01).

This train depot of the 118.9 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project will serve trains on the new 26.09 km Line-4 which will connect Light House – Poonamallee Bypass through 30 stations.

It will be used to stable and maintain the line’s 26 3-coach train-sets for which CMRL received 3 bids from Alstom, BEML and Titagarh in September.

CMRL invited tenders for the depot’s civil construction in January 2021 with a 3 year completion deadline and opened technical bids in July to reveal 5 bidders.

Package: DPT-01

Brief Scope: Construction of Depot at Poonamallee including Structural Works, Architectural Finishes, Plumbing Works, Signages , Utility shifting & Boundary wall and all Associated works

Design details such as the number of stabling, workshop, inspection lines wasn’t mentioned in the basic tender notice and still remains unknown at this time.

With this development, 3 out of 5 civil contracts for Line-4’s development have been awarded. A list of all Phase 2 civil packages and their status can be viewed here.
