4 Bidders for Chennai Metro Line 5’s Track Work Contract

4 firms have submitted bids to supply and install standard gauge tracks for Chennai Metro’s Line-5 after Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) opened technical bids for Package C-5-CP18B-ATW-12 on Saturday.

This new 47 km primarily-elevated corridor of the 118.9 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project will run in a north-south orientation to connect Madhavaram – Sholinganallur via 48 stations.

This tender’s scope includes track-work between Madhavaram Milk Colony and CMBT Station and inside Madhavaram Depot. Back in April, Larsen & Toubro emerged as the lowest bidder for the line’s CMBT – Sholinganallur section.

CMRL invited tenders for this systems contract, financed by JICA, in January 2022 with a Rs. 194 crore estimate and 1006 day deadline + 730 day (DLP).

Bidders

  • KEC International Ltd.
  • Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T)
  • Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL)
  • Texmaco Rail and Engineering Ltd.

Tender: Phase-II/C-5-CP18B-ATW-12/2022

Brief Scope: Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of Ballastless Track of Standard Gauge including all associated works in Underground, Elevated and Madhavaram Depot of Chennai Metro Rail Project – Phase II Between CMBT to Madhavaram Milk Colony of Corridor 5.

All bids have now been sent for technical bid evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely supplier.

As I mentioned in another post – things on the tendering side – both civil & systems – are moving along nicely although with some hiccups along the way for its rolling stock. This week CMRL plans to open technical bids for Line-3’s track-work and Line-4’s E&M contract.
