L&T Wins 31 Km Hyderabad Airport Metro Line’s Contract

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is the lowest bidder for the civil construction and system procurement contract of Hyderabad Metro’s 31 km Airport Express Line.

Per my industry sources, L&T was revealed as the preferred bidder in July-end when financial bids of L&T and NCC were opened. This development has now been confirmed by Eenadu website.

This semi high-speed rail line by Hyderabad Airport Metro Ltd. (HAML) along Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) will be developed under Hyderabad Metro’s Phase 2 project. It will connect Mindspace Junction with Rajiv Gandhi International (Shamshabad) Airport via 10 stations – 9 elevated and 1 underground.

Trains on this line will run on an elevated viaduct for 28.5 km and underground for 2.5 km at the airport within Hyderabad Aerocity. Trains operating at a maximum speed of 120 kmph are expected to cover the distance from Gachibowli to RGIA in 20 minutes.

HAML had invited bids for this contract in May 2023 with a Rs. 5688 crore estimate and 36 month deadline. 13 firms had participated in the pre-bid meeting held on June 15. Technical bids were opened in July to reveal 2 bidders – Larsen & Toubro and NCC.

I don’t have either firm’s financial bid values. If someone does, then leave a comment below or shoot me a message via the Contact page. I’d like to add it in here for record keeping.

Brief Scope: Design & Construction of Hyderabad Airport Express Metro Line from Raidurg Metro station to Shamshabad Airport Station (31 km) including Elevated Viaduct, 9 (nine) stations, E&M works, Track Works, supply and commissioning of Rolling Stock, Traction & Power Supply, Signaling & Telecommunications, AFC, etc. (link to tender notice)

10 stations (9 elevated & 1 underground) will be built at Mindspace, Raidurg, Biodiversity, Nanakramguda, Narasingi, TSPA Junction, Rajender Nagar, Shamshabad Junction, Airport Cargo and RGIA Terminal (only underground station).

Financial bids were evaluated by SYSTRA – RITES – DB Engineering JV (General Consultant) and HAML’s officers. I hear L&T’s bid has been recommended to the Telangana state government for the award of contract, and a ground breaking ceremony is planned to take place on September 11.

As mentioned in the past, the scope of this contract – with civil and systems work clubbed together – is unprecedented so I’m super curious to see who L&T partnered up with for various systems. For Hyderabad Metro’s 67 km Phase 1, L&T had signed up with Hyundai Rotem for rolling stock and Thales Group for its CBTC signaling system.

The project’s train maintenance depot is planned to be built at Hyderabad Aerocity on a 48 acre land parcel, which GMR has been requested to allocate.

MMTS WOULD’VE BEEN BEST OPTION COST EFFECTIVE IN CONSTRUCTION & TRANSPORTATION BUT …….AFTER CONSTRUCTION EVERYONE HAS TO PAY MORE PRICE TO TRAVEL IN METRO

Exactly my point, they should better construct more MMTS railway stations and develop that instead of Metro Service

MMTS more comes under central government railways, to set up a new railway track is night mare because it comes under railways.
