Mumbai Metro Line 6: 4 Bidders for Track Work Contract MT-09R

Per an industry source – 4 firms have submitted bids to supply and install balastless tracks on Mumbai Metro’s 15.18 km Line-6 (Pink Line) which will connect Swami Samarth Nagar (Lokhandwala) – Vikhroli via 13 elevated stations.

The city’s new Line-6, being executed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), is under construction by J Kumar Infraprojects (Packages BC-01R1 & BC-03) and MBZ – EIIL JV (Package BC-02R) since 2019.

This is a contract retender for the line’s track work. In the original round, the DMRC had invited tenders for Package MT-09 in August 2021 with an estimate of Rs. 38.04 crore and 450 day deadline. The bidding process was cancelled in September 2021 due to vague “administrative reasons” before the bid submission deadline closed.

In the new round, DMRC re-invited bids in August 2023 with a Rs. 96.34 crore estimate and 730 day (2 year) deadline. Technical bids were opened on last Monday to reveal 4 bidders.

Bidders

  • Apurvakriti Infrastructure
  • Paras Railtech
  • Rahee Infratech
  • Texmaco Rail and Engineering

DMRC’s Brief Scope: Installation, Testing and Commissioning of Ballastless Track including Supply of Buffer Stop for Line-6 Mumbai Metro (S.S. Nagar to Vikhroli) (Ch. -822.508m to Ch. 14380.755m).

The bids are currently undergoing technical evaluation. When completed, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor for this package.

This is Mumbai Metro Line 6’s third track work related contract. The other ones are:

  • Package MT-08: Awarded to Pandrol Rahee Technologies in May 2021 for Line-6’s track fastening system
  • Package CT-38: Awarded to Jindal Steel and Power Ltd. (JSPL) in January 2021 for supplying 1500 MT of Class “A” 880 Grade Rails to Kanjurmarg Depot

Speaking of Kanjurmarg Depot, MMRDA just invited bids to appoint a General Consultant (GC) to assist with its civil construction (Package CA208). This is a strange contract as a dedicated GC for depot works is unheard of, so it makes me believe MMRDA doesn’t have the requisite manpower or appetite to manage its execution. Anyway, technical bids are currently scheduled to open on October 18 – so stay tuned for a list of bidders!

In other encouraging depot news, MMRDA today awarded SEW – VSE JV with Line-4 Mogharpada Depot’s civil construction contract (Package CA-160). They were declared as its lowest bidder in April 2023 – see details and design.

By 2030, all Metro Projects for Mumbai and MMR (at least more than or equal to 80% of them) should get completed and pressed into commuter service.

Will definitely happen by 2030. Infact, if current BJP+Shivsena gets re-elected after 2024 State polls, we can expect more push towards completion of the projects.

Metro projects of main Mumbai (BMC areas) can be completed by 2027

Yes we should unanimously elect BJP + Shivsena (Eknath Shinde group) once again in 2024 State Polls. I am really optimistic and hoping for the completion of all 337 Kms of Metro Projects in Mumbai.

wasnt this line supposed to be completed next year? Looks like they are still undergoing evaluation. Probably LOA by January. Is it fair to assume now, the line will only be ready by January 2026? that’s 9 years of construction time starting from 2017 🙁
