Kochi Metro Phase 2: Leap Infraasys Awarded Proof Consultant Contract

Leap Infraasys Pvt. Ltd (LIPL) on Monday was awarded a Rs. 34.98 lakh contract for providing Proof Consultancy services for Kochi Metro’s Phase 2 project’s power supply and 750 V DC Third Rail traction electrification system.

This consultancy contract (Package KBE-PC-01) by Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) is the fifth significant pre-construction contract for Kochi Metro’s Phase 2 which will feature a 11.2 km new elevated corridor, named Pink Line, with 11 stations connecting JLN Stadium – Kakkanad – Infopark (Smart City).

KMRL had invited tenders for this contract in August 2023 with an unknown estimate and 180 day deadline. Technical bids were opened in mid-September to reveal 4 bidders out of which Rina Consulting was disqualified.

Pink Line’s 11 stations will come up at Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium (new station box next to Blue Line), Palarivattom Junction, Palarivattom Bypass, Chembumukku, Vazhakkala, Padamughal (formerly Kunnumpuram), Kakkanad Junction, Cochin SEZ (Special Economic Zone), Chittethukara, KINFRA (formerly Rajagiri), and InfoPark / Smart City (connected to Kochi Water Metro).

This is LIPL’s second win in the mass transit space over the past year after Noida Metro’s Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contract for its 25 kV Overhead Equipment (OHE) system. In Kochi, they’ll be working closely with SYSTRA MVA Consulting which was awarded the Third Rail electrification system’s Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contract this summer.

Bidding is currently underway for Phase 2’s civil construction contract (Package KBC3). The bid submission deadline is coming up on November 17 and technical bids are planned to be opened on the 20th, so stay tuned!
