Chennai Metro Line 4: Shellinfo Awarded AFC Equipment Contract AFA03B

Shellinfo Global Digital Technologies in December was awarded a Rs. 93.17 crore contract to supply station level equipment for the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system of 26.09 km Chennai Metro Line-4.

This is Shellinfo’s second contract in the 116.1 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project and for Line-4 which will connect Light House – Poonamallee Bypass via 30 elevated and underground stations. The other contract for the AFC’s back-office integration work (Package AFA03A) was awarded to them in November 2023 with a contract value of Rs. 42.57 crore.

Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) had invited tenders for the AFC’s equipment in February 2023 with an unknown estimate and 1870 (5.12 year) deadline.

Technical bids were opened in August to reveal 5 bidders. RAF-CS India – Revenue Collection System France JV was found to be non-compliant to the tender conditions and disqualified.

Financial bids for the technically qualified 4 bidders were opened in October 2023 to reveal Shellinfo as the lowest bidder. Look at that staggering high bid submitted by Japan’s Nippon Signal!

Brief Scope: Design Manufacture Supply Installation Testing Commissioning and Maintenance of Station Level Equipment For Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) System for CMRL Phase II _Corridor4.

Overall this is Shellinfo’s third contract in India after Hyderabad Metro’s Phase 1 project.

With this development, all system contracts for Line-4 have been awarded, including rolling stock (awarded to Alstom), electrification (awarded to Siemens) and telecom (awarded to Larsen & Toubro).
