Vossloh Awarded Bangalore Metro Phase 2A & 2B’s Track Turnouts Contract

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL)’s updated website indicates Vossloh Cogifer Turnouts India Pvt. Ltd. last week was awarded a Rs. 29.97 crore contract to supply turnouts for Bangalore Metro’s 57 km Blue Line.

This new under construction line of Bangalore Metro’s Phase 2A (ORR Line) and Phase 2B (Airport Line) projects will connect Silkboard – KR Puram – Bengaluru International Airport through 30 stations on the Outer Ring Road and national highway NH-44.

Standard gauge turnouts of UIC-60 specification will enable the system’s 6-coach BEML trains from package 5RS-DM to guide from one track line to another when this line opens up, which I estimate will happen no sooner than Q1 2026.

BMRCL had invited bids for systems package in December 2023 with a 24 month (2 year) deadline.

I don’t have a list of bidders for this package, but most likely Voestalpine VAE VKN India would have been the only other bidder as typically these two firms are the only bidders across Indian metro projects for such contracts that require a high precision of work.

If someone has bid values, then leave a comment below or shoot me a message via the Contact page. I’d like to add it in here for record keeping.

  • Contract Value: Rs. 29,97,99,783.00 (excl. GST)
  • Awarded: March 15, 2024
  • Tender No.: BMRCL/Phase-2A & 2B/Turnouts /2023/101

Once supplied by Vossloh, these turnouts will be installed by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) which was awarded Phase 2A and 2B’s two track-work contracts in June 2023 with a combined value of Rs. 500 crore.

Speaking of turnouts, Texmaco Rail and Engineering earlier this month cast the final turnout for the Green Line’s 3.031 km long Reach 3C project to Madavara – see details & pics.

With civil construction well underway across all 5 civil packages of Phase 2A and 2B, BMRCL’s tender evaluation team is currently focused on squaring away all system contracts.

Back in February, KEC International was declared as the lowest bidder for the line’s 66KV power supply contract EPC6-CC, and Siemens – RVNL JV was declared as the lowest bidder for its 750V DC third rail electrification contract EPC5-CC.

A list of all civil and systems contractors can be viewed here for Phase 2A and here for Phase 2B.
