Ceigall Begins Piling for Kanpur Metro Line-2’s Package KNPCC-12

Ceigall India this Monday bored and concreted the first pile for Package KNPCC-12 of Kanpur Metro’s 8.38 km Line-2 which will connect Agriculture University and Barra-8.

4.3 km long Package KNPCC-12 of the 32.38 km Kanpur Metro Phase 1 project consists of 2 disjointed elevated sections on either side of underground Package KNPCC-11 which was awarded for construction to KPIL – Gulermak JV in December 2023.

Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) had awarded Ceigall with KNPCC-12’s Rs. 427.11 crore contract in March 2024 with a 30 month deadline.

At 3.745 km, the southern section of KNPCC-12’s viaduct will connect Double Pullia Ramp and Barra-8 with 4 elevated stations at Vijay Nagar Chauraha, Shastri Chowk, Barra-7 Station and Barra-8. On the northern-end of the line, past Rawatpur Interchange Station, a small 557.8m viaduct will be built with 1 elevated station at Agriculture University next to Line-2’s Agriculture University Depot.

Ceigall had started casting pier caps for the line’s viaduct at the yard in June. Per UPMRC’s X post, Ceigall will be boring approximately 750 piles for the viaduct and stations’ substructure.

Piling is the first step of construction, and with this development I’ve updated figures for Kanpur Metro on its information page as well as the Quick Snapshot page:

It’s very likely that piling for KNPCC-11’s tunnel boring machine (TBM) launch shafts and underground stations has also started by now, but I haven’t seen any visual confirmation yet.

Hi, Central Government’s Cabinet’s approval is currently pending.

Finance Ministry’s approval was incorrectly reported by the media as CG’s approval.
