Ranjit Buildcon Awarded Bhubaneswar Metro BBC-03’s Contract

Ranjit Buildcon Ltd. (RBL) on Thursday was awarded a Rs. 561.21 crore contract to construct Package BBC-03 of Bhubaneswar Metro’s Phase 1 project which will connect Trisulia Square – Biju Patnaik Airport via 20 elevated stations.

7.122 km long Package BBC-03 is located on the southern-end of 26 km Line-1 and will connect Capital Hospital to Acharya Vihar Square via 6 elevated stations at Capital Hospital, Bapuji Nagar, Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Ram Mandir Square, Vani Vihar and Acharya Vihar Square.

BBC-03 is Bhubaneswar Metro’s first of 3 major civil packages to be awarded. Its construction with a 36 month deadline will be funded entirely by the Government of Odisha and other appropriate means of Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL).

Final Contract Value: Rs. 561,21,96,099.46 (incl. GST & taxes)

Here’s a copy of the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) issued by DMRC:

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had invited bids for BBC-03’s construction in March 2024 with a Rs. 630.65 crore estimate and 36 month deadline. Technical bids were opened on June 19 to reveal 12 bidders, and financial bids were opened last week to reveal Ranjit Buildcon as the lowest bidder – see bid values of all 12 bidders.

DMRC’s Brief Scope: Part Design and Construction of Elevated Viaduct and Six Elevated Stations viz. Capital Hospital, Bapuji Nagar, Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Ram Mandir Square, Vani Vihar and Acharya Vihar Square (excluding Architectural finishing ) from Chainage 625.00 m to 7747.00 m of Bhubaneswar Metro Phase-I MRTS.

All stations’ exact location has been marked out on Google Maps over here. Biju Patnaik Airport Metro Station and the viaduct leading up to it will be constructed as part of a separate package after design approval from the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

The construction of Bhubaneswar Metro will be Ranjit Buildcon’s third metro project after Ahmedabad Metro (Phase 1 & Phase 2) and Surat Metro Phase 1.

As shared multiple times this past week, I expect basic pre-construction ground work to begin by the end of September and full-fledged construction to start in the middle of Q4 in November-December.

With this development, the award of contracts for the main-line’s construction are now pending for 7.27 km Package BBC-04 (also won by Ranjit Buildcon) and 10.97 km BBC-05 (won by Ceigall India).

When the Bhubaneswar airport metro station will get approval? How much time will it take to get approval?

Depends on AAI’s management. When done – its construction will likely be included in BBC-03’s scope if Ranjit agrees to it
