Delhi Metro Golden Line’s 1st U-Girder Launched by YFC on DC-04

YFC Projects in August launched their first U-girder for the 23.62 km Delhi Metro Golden Line (Line-10) project’s viaduct which will connect Aerocity – Tughlakabad via 15 stations.

This feat on 85.86 km Delhi Metro Phase 4 project’s 4.28 km Package DC-04 (Saket G Block – Sangam Vihar) was recorded at the ramp area located in Saket’s City Forest. The ramp here will connect with 6.51 km underground Package DC-09 (Kishangarh – Neb Sarai) which is under construction by Larsen & Toubro.

YFC had launched their first pier cap in the same ramp area in December 2023. Last month they brought out the first 28m U-girder from their yard located in Pushp Vihar where casting works began all the way back in August 2020. I estimate YFC will cast and launch a total of 240 U-girders for DC-04’s viaduct.

Package DC-04 is the only elevated package of the Golden Line (rest 3: DC-07DC-08 & DC-09 are underground) and will include a roughly 2.4 km double-decker section for vehicles (1st level) and metro (2nd level) on Mehrauli Badarpur Road between Sangam Vihar and Ambedkar Nagar metro stations.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had awarded DC-04’s Rs. 726.08 crore contract to YFC in December 2019 with a construction deadline of 36 months.

YFC’s scope of works also includes building an underpass at Saket G-Block, another 2 lane underpass from Mehrauli-Badarpur Road to Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, emergency siding lines and four elevated stations at Sangam Vihar, Khanpur, Ambedkar Nagar and Saket G Block.

I hear YFC has so far launched 4 U-girders. I’ll add more pictures over here when available.

Chasing a deadline of 36 months, the first U-girder was placed 56 months after the award of contract so this package on paper is running terribly behind schedule.

I suspect key-dates & timelines have internally been negotiated with DMRC due to the disruption from Covid-19 and bidding delays booked between 2019-2021 in awarding contracts for the rest of the line’s construction as the start of commercial operations on DC-04 are dependent on completion of tunneling works on Afcons Infrastructure’s Package DC-07 which will connect up to Sarita Vihar Depot.

Refer to ‘YFC had launched their first pier cap in the same ramp area in December 2024’.

December 24 is yet to come.

We have entered in Q3 of 2024, and they have launched their FIRST girder!!!
I mean seriously, what is this happening with Golden line. Except doing colour changing nonsense twice, wth they have done in this corridor?
And they are aiming to inaugurate it in 2026, what a Joke!
I think like Mumbai Metro case, Rolling stock would arrive on time and then would be parked somewhere for a period because this is not going to be ready before 2028 anyway.

Congratulations to DMRC for installing U-Girder near Magistrate Office Saket.

Unfortunately, DMRC or its contractor, YFC doing work in patches. They hadn’t started to work between BSES office Khanpur ro Devli Chowk.. narrow way to pass between Tigri to Khanpur… Just one vehicle can go. 3 wheelers and gramin sewas blocking the road at Devli, Tigri, etc. Traffic Marchals are puppets. Very difficult to move in MB road.

Hey it could be worse, imagine if Simplex got the contract! Then we’d be looking at it opening in the 2030s. At least in this case it should be opened by the end of 2026

Golden line is the slowest ever work done by the dmrc ever in Delhi.Blaming on covid is only the half truth. Some of the reasons for delay are as below:
    1) DMRC delayed awarding the contract, after gettinf permission from Delhi Govt & Centre in March 2019
    2) Dmrc could not take tree felling permission and approval from Ridge Management Board parallely
3)No work at Khanpur as illegal shops are yet to be demolished. Poor planning by dmrc considering they are very well aware of these issues in phase 3 times. No learning from Trilokpuri issue which delayed Pink line
    4) Shifting of illegal of jhuggi jhopdi near Ma Anandamayi Marg is still not done. Again lack of planning by dmrc
    5) Very slow work on UG stations as well.
