Ceigall Launches Kanpur Metro Line-2 KNPCC-12’s First Pier Cap

Ceigall India on Monday morning erected their 1st of 121 pier caps for Package KNPCC-12 of Kanpur Metro’s 8.38 km Line-2 which will connect Agriculture University and Barra-8.

This feat for Kanpur Metro Phase 1 project‘s third & final elevated package was recorded in the ramp area near Agriculture College Metro Station and Agriculture College Depot which is under construction by K.S.M. Bashir Mohd. And Sons as part of Package KNPCC-14.

Ceigall had started casting 9.5m wide pier caps for the line’s viaduct in June 2024 and moved on to casting 27.90m U-girders in July at their yard located in Naubasta’s Hanspuram neighborhood (view on Google Maps).

Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) had awarded Ceigall with KNPCC-12’s Rs. 427.11 crore construction contract in March 2024 with a 30 month deadline.

Package KNPCC-12 consists of 2 disjointed elevated sections on either side of underground Package KNPCC-11 (Agriculture Depot – Double Pullia Ramp) which was awarded for construction to KPIL – Gulermak JV in December 2023.

At 3.745 km, the southern section of KNPCC-12’s viaduct will connect Double Pullia Ramp and Barra-8 with 4 elevated stations at Vijay Nagar Chauraha, Shastri Chowk, Barra-7 Station and Barra-8. On the northern-end of the line, past Rawatpur Interchange Station, a small 557.8m viaduct will be built with 1 elevated station at Agriculture University next to Line-2’s Agriculture University Depot.

This major milestone was recorded in less than 6 months from the award of contract. This swift pace is similar to what Afcons Infrastructure on Line-1’s operational Package KNPCC-02R and JMC Projects (KPIL) on under construction Package KNPCC-07 had accomplished, so there’s nothing new to see here.

I heard that Mumbai Metro 3 has sent an application for CMRS review of rolling stock. Do you think it can open before Maharashtra MCC/Assembly Elections come into effect? What about Phase 2?

Hi, Line-3 Phase 1 will definitely open within 45 days. I hear MMRC is currently scouting for an event management contractor to host its launch event at BKC. Phase 2 will open in 2025.
