SYSTRA & STUP Qualify for Pune Metro Extension’s Design Contract DDC-03

SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India) and STUP – RITES JV on Monday qualified for Detailed Design Consultant contract DDC-03 of Pune Metro’s Phase 1 Extension (Phase 1A) project.

Package DDC-03’s scope involves designing 13 new elevated stations on Pune Metro’s Aqua Line (Line-2) which will be extended in either direction. Two of those stations will be built on the line’s 1.12 km western extension (Line-2A) between Vanaz – Chandni Chowk, while eleven stations will be built on the line’s 11.63 km eastern extension (Line-2B) between Ramwadi – Wagholi.

Maharashtra’s state government had approved both extensions’ construction in March 2024 with an estimated cost of Rs. 3756.58 crore.

The assigned design consultant’s role will include producing and proposing alternate designs of all civil, architectural, building services, electrical and mechanical works.

MahaMetro had invited bids for Package DDC-03 in July 2023 with a 4 year contract duration and an unknown estimate which I hear might be Rs. 2.36 crore. Technical bids were opened in August-end to reveal 3 bidders, and evaluation was completed on Monday morning.

Qualified Bidders (2)

  • SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India)
  • STUP – RITES JV

Disqualified Bidder (1)

  • LKT Engineering – FP Project Management JV

MahaMetro’s Brief Scope: Detailed Design Consultancy Services for 2 (Two) Elevated Stations in Line 2A-Vanaz to Chandni Chowk and for 11 (Eleven) Elevated Stations in Line 2B-Ramwadi to Wagholi excluding Viaduct in station portions of Pune Metro Rail Project.

I’ve mapped out all 13 stations on Google Maps over here and will adjust their locations as satellite imagery of their sites becomes visible in 2026ish.

I hear financial bids of both SYSTRA and STUP-RITES JV were opened on Monday evening to reveal the lowest bidder (most likely winner). If someone reading this is aware of the results, then leave a comment below or shoot me a message using the Contact page.

This is the third and final design consultancy contract for Pune Metro’s Phase 1 Extension project. The other ones are on the Purple Line:

Why we don’t have equidistant stops. Some stops are very close in distance while some are very far. Why can’t we have stop after Viman Nagar somewhere near to 9 BRD – Tata Guard room instead of Somnath Nagar, this will achieve equidistance between Kharadi Byepass and Viman Nagar Stops.

Station locations are not decided by distance but by the neighbourhood and adjacent development or connections to other modes.

Does this mean that the State’s moving ahead with the extensions without central approval?

That’s not possible, without Center’s approval the project won’t move further for Financing.
Any Financial institution will take interest in financing only if they have approval from Central government.

Looking at Central government pace to approve metro projects, I assume it will get approved by September next year.

And the actual work starts in December 2025.

Recently I saw some thread about Pune metro Phase 2 where they will build Ring metro, I think it would be great if State approaches for both the metro simultaneously for Central approval if that happens we can expect the approval in Jan 26 but for that State should clear the file from their desk.

People are looking for metro between following to avoid traffic in PCMC
1] Alandi to Yerwada via Dighi
2] Hinjewadi to Chakan via Nigdi
3] Dighi to Hinjewad via Chinchwad
4] Landewadi to Hinjewadi via Pimpri
5] Kadakwasala to Kharadi Via Swargate and Hadapsar
    6] Hadapsar to Urli
    7] Hadapsar to Fursangi

Since new elevated roads proposed then why not double decker metro to be construction
    1] Wagholi to Shikrapur
    2] Nashik Phata to chakan
3] Bhumkar Chowk / Ravet to Warje

in order to avoid land permission it is better to go for underground below present running traffic roads
