Bangalore Metro’s Phase 3A Approved by Karnataka Government
Karnataka Government’s Cabinet today approved 36.59 km Bangalore Metro Phase 3A project’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) at an estimated cost of Rs. 28,405 crore.
Phase 3A project by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) will comprise of one new metro line connecting Sarjapur – Hebbal via 28 stations. This line with 22.14 km elevated & 14.45 km underground sections will cut through the city’s core and connect Carmeleram, Agara, Koramangala, Dairy Circle, Central College and Armane Nagar.
Phase 3A’s DPR was prepared by RINA Consulting SpA for BMRCL between 2022-2023. It suggests building a train maintenance and stabling depot at Sarjapur.
28 stations (17 elevated & 11 underground) are planned to be built at Sarjapur, Kada Agrahara Road, Sompura, Dommasandra, Muthanallur Cross, Kodathi Circle, Ambedkar Nagar, Carmelaram, Doddakanalli, Kaikondrahalli, Bellandur Gate, Ibbalur, Agara, Jakkasandra, Koramangala 3rd Block, Koramangala 2nd Block, Dairy Circle, Nimhans, Shantinagara, Town Hall, KR Circle, Basaveshwara Circle, Bengaluru Golf Course, Palace Guttahalli, Mekhri Circle, Veterinary College, Ganga Nagar and Hebbal.
5 stations will provide interchange connectivity at Ibbalur (Blue Line), Agara (Blue Line), Dairy Circle (Pink Line), KR Circle (Purple Line), Hebbal (Blue Line & Orange Line).
The line will run underground between Veterinary College and Koramangala 3rd Block. This line will likely consist of two double-decker viaducts for vehicles and metro trains:
- Sarjapur to Ibbalur (ORR Junction) of 14 km length (CH: 0.500 Km to CH: 14.500 Km)
- Agara to Koramangala 3rd Block of 2.45 km length (CH: 16.900 Km to CH: 19.350 Km)
Key for map below: Phase 1 | Phase 2 | Phase 2A | Phase 2B | Phase 3 | Phase 3A
With this exciting development, BMRCL is now expected to begin pre-construction and other tendering activities to appoint Detailed Design Consultants (DDCs) and contractors for utility shifting & demolition after land acquisition.
The DPR will now be sent to the Union Government for its various departments and cabinet’s approval. The start of tendering for civil construction can begin before the Union Government’s approval, but contracts will be awarded only after approval as seen in Phase 2A & 2B. At this time I see construction work starting no sooner 2027.

Very good but isn’t the estimate too high?
Most of the line is either underground or on double decker viaduct. So, the cost will definitely br very high
The underground part will probably make up most of that high cost, but it’s worth it and pretty competitive from an international perspective. It should be approved by the centre asap, otherwise costs will just go up even more
Didn’t the central govt just give its approval a few weeks back?
Upcoming approvals are of a different category? From various central govt depts for clearances?
That was phase 3, This is phase 3A. Completely different projects.
Just like phase 2, 2A and 2B currently
Oh 😔
Just 2 lines have taken about 10 years for commissioning. But in the map networks appearing like spider web is shown. How long it would take for completion, no body can predict.
The approved lines have not been completed. The yellow line has become the yellow river. Metro should have made alternative arrangements. Next is the pink line. This again is behind schedule by 4 years. What is the point of approving new lines when the current team is unable to handle the current load.
Why can’t Government go for accelerated implementation by working 24/7 which may involve additional cost with incentives for timely implementation?
Congratulations, why so much delay in starting which is mid 2027, then it will take ten years for commencement, 2037, will it not be redundant or highly insufficient due to population growth ???????
By the time Metro is completed, Bangalore will be under a big crisis, where in population will be even more decreased due to rapid pollution with Metro construction.
Please finish it ASAP. All the best
Namma Metro have to pull up their six n. Start up and running. Literally work going on in a snail’s phase. By the time project get completed traffic will be 10x
Hi TMRG
Any update on titagarh trains for yellow line first week of December is over still no sign of train.
I am surprised why the Hoskote stretch is not considered. The Bangalore to Chennai expressway starts from Hoskote, but reaching Hoskote is a nightmare right now. It should have been prioritized by now. I don’t know what the politics behind this delay are.
