Delhi Metro Phase 4’s First Section to Krishna Park to be Inaugurated on Jan 5

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 5 (Sunday) will inaugurate and open the first section of 112.32 km Delhi Metro Phase 4 project per an official document issued by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

This first section includes the 2.03 km underground extension of the Magenta Line (Line-8) connecting Janakpuri West – Krishna Park Extension with 1 new station at Krishna Park Extension. The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) had inspected this section for operational readiness way back in July 2024 and I understand various deficiencies were found that had to be rectified.

In addition – on Sunday the foundation stone will be unveiled for the 26.463 km Rithala – Narela – Nathupur (Kundli) metro line which was approved by India’s Central Government’s Cabinet in early December.

Per some documents I’ve seen, the upcoming event was originally scheduled to take place last Sunday on December 29, 2024 but had to be rescheduled likely due to death of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Here’s the official document posted by DMRC’s Executive Director for Human Resources:

The Janakpuri West – Krishna Park Extension of the Magenta Line was built by HCC – VCCL JV under Phase 4’s Package DC-06 with a 36 month deadline. HCC – VCCL JV had deployed one Terratec tunnel boring machine (TBM) S86 “Triveni” in January 2021 between Vikaspuri Shaft – Krishna Park Extension and wrapped up tunneling works in November 2022.

Paras Railtech had installed tracks inside the line’s tunnels as part of Package DT-05 awarded in November 2022. Trial runs (train testing) using one of Delhi’s RS10 Hyundai Rotem 6-coach trains had started in June 2024.

I hear the SPARCS signaling system installed by Nippon Signal is not fully in place and trains will operate in a degraded mode between Janakpuri West – Krishna Park Extension.

When this extension opens up, it will take 38.2 km Magenta Line deeper into West Delhi as part of the Phase 4 project’s 28.92 km Janakpuri West – RK Ashram extension which includes 2 underground (DC-05DC-06) and 3 elevated (DC-01DC-01A & DC-03R) civil packages.

Delhi’s Magenta Line will then become 40.23 km long connecting Botanical Garden – Krishna Park Extension via 26 stations, and the entire network will become 353.31 km strong.

Not sure, but this is pleasant news. I was away for a bit in Nov-Dec and didn’t hear/read about it happening.

    MUMBAI METRO CONSTRUCTION:
    NEVER ENDING STORY

On an average of 8-10 people die in local train accident every day in Mumbai.

Still projects are pending and not completed.

Metro trains are being built in Smaller towns where no people are riding. Don’t understand why.
