CMRS to Inspect Delhi Metro’s Krishna Park Extension on July 30

The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) this Tuesday (July 30) will perform the final safety inspection for Delhi Metro Magenta Line (Line-8)’s 2.03 km extension between Janakpuri West – Krishna Park Extension.

This underground section with 1 new station at Krishna Park Extension will be the first leg of the 85.86 km Delhi Metro Phase 4 project to become operational, which I hear is being targeted to open on or around Independence Day (August 15).

The CMRS’ inspection date was conveyed in a note posted by DMRC’s Executive Director Ashwani Kumar:

In the 1-day inspection, the CMRS and its team will visually inspect the line’s underground twin tunnels, tracks and all features of Krishna Park Extension Station such as PA system, signage, safety features, drinking water facilities, station access and control room. The inspection will end with a speed trial in which the inspection train will clock upward of 80 kmph.

Here’s a copy of the inspection schedule:

This small extension of the Magenta Line was built by HCC – VCCL JV under Package DC-06 with a 36 month deadline. They had deployed one Terratec tunnel boring machine (TBM) S86 “Triveni” which wrapped up tunneling works between Vikaspuri Shaft – Krishna Park Extension in November 2022.

Paras Railtech had installed tracks inside the line’s tunnels as part of Package DT-05 awarded in November 2022. I hear trial runs (train testing) using one of Delhi’s RS10 Hyundai Rotem trains had started about a month ago and DMRC’s MD had inspected the line on July 23.

When this extension opens in the coming weeks, it will take 38.2 km Magenta Line deeper into West Delhi as part of the Phase 4 project’s 28.92 km Janakpuri West – RK Ashram extension which includes 2 underground (DC-05DC-06) and 3 elevated (DC-01, DC-01ADC-03R) civil packages.

Delhi’s Magenta Line will then become 30.95 km long connecting Botanical Garden – Krishna Park Extension via 26 stations, and the entire network will become 353.31 km strong.

Here are a couple videos uploaded recently on YouTube showing Krishna Park Extension Station’s concourse and platform levels:

Whereas in Mumbai, where tunnelling got over in 2020, people are still waiting for final go ahead. Trials and more trials are going on.

Just like the famous hindi dialogue – Taarikh pe taarikh, taarikh pe taarikh.

    I have 2 Queries:
    1. Is Rithala-Narela extension of Red line approved or not. According to Many articles, it has been approved by Union govt. In June 2024 while no reaction/progress over this has been observed. What’s the matter?
    2. What is the Final alignment of Golden line?
Is it still from Aerocity to Tughlaqabad Or is it from Terminal 1 IGI to Tughlaqabad as per so many articles?

    Hi tmrg!
Any idea why they have gone for full height metro gates rather than the shoulder height ones like in all the other metro stations? Maybe safety?
Also KPE station seems rather cramped unlike other delhi metro stations which have a large open space between the concourse and the platform, maybe it’s just my perception. Anyhow, excited for when it will open

Full heights PSDs on Major MRTs around the world like Singapore MRT and Chinese ones have been a norm from long ago. Many stations on Pink line also have low ceiling feels claustrophobic, can agree. Systems like Singapore MRT stations built with grand ceiling height and platform widths, seems like a cost cutting and budget issues.

I know full height psds are the normal. Other systems in India use the same full height doors. The question then should probably be why does delhi go with shorter ones? Maybe they didn’t bother with it and went with it since those doors are used on the elevated stations as well. But then why bother now? I guess this is kinda pointless to discuss, but full height platform screen doors are kinda bland in a way, I don’t get to see my metro!!!

Searching up a little on the internet tells me that half heights ones are cheaper.
