Pune Metro Phase 1 Extension – Information & Update

Pune Metro Phase 1 Extension (Phase 1A) project in Pune, Maharashtra involves the extension of Pune Metro’s 16.589 km Purple Line and 14.655 km Aqua Line, built in Phase 1, to Nigdi (Bhakti Shakti), Katraj, Chandni Chowk and Wagholi.

Pune Metro Phase 1A Detailed Project Report (DPR) was prepared by SYSTRA MVA Consulting and has been published online over here by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro).

The project’s 4.519 km northern extension from PCMC to Bhakti Shakti with 4 elevated stations was approved was approved by the Central Government’s Cabinet in October 2023 with an estimated cost of Rs. 910.18 crore.

Its 5.46 km underground southern extension from Swargate to Katraj with 3 underground stations was approved by the Central Government’s cabinet in August 2024 with an estimated total cost of Rs. 2954.53 crore.

Maharashtra’s state government in March 2024 approved the Aqua Line’s 1.12 km western extension (Line-2A) between Vanaz – Chandni Chowk and 11.63 km eastern extension (Line-2B) between Ramwadi – Wagholi. These lines are currently awaiting the Central Government’s approval.

Construction on Pune Metro’s Phase 1 Extension started in mid-2024. I expect Phase 1 Extension to be completed and opened no sooner than 2029.
