5 Bidders for Bangalore Metro Challaghatta Depot’s Work

5 construction firms (3 in a consortium) have submitted bids to construct Bangalore Metro Purple Line’s Challaghatta Depot & Workshop.

This depot of the 73.92 km Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project will be built on a portion of a 40 acre land parcel abutting Mysore Road at the southern-end of Reach 2B which is under construction by Soma Enterprise.

In the coming years, Challaghatta Depot will become important in running smooth operations on the Purple Line, along with the Kadugodi Depot, when the existing Baiyappanahalli Depot gets re-purposed to serve the 57 km Blue Line connecting Silkboard – KR Puram – Kempegowda International Airport.

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) invited tenders for its construction in January with a 24 month deadline and Rs. 517.44 crore estimate. Technical bids were opened on Monday.

Bidders:

  • IRCON International Ltd.
  • KEC International – SAM India JV
  • RITES – PMPL JV
  • RVNL – DRA Infracon JV
  • URC Constructions Pvt. Ltd.

BMRCL Brief Scope: Construction of Depot cum Workshop at Challaghatta in Reach-2 Extension of Bangalore Metro Rail Project, Phase-2.

STUP Consultants Pvt. Ltd. was awarded the depot’s Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contract in January 2020 with a value of Rs. 4.47 crore.

The bids have now been sent for technical bid evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.

Challaghatta Depot is the 5th and final depot of the Phase 2 project to be tendered out. See a list of all Phase 2 civil & system packages and their contractors here.

I’m expecting the final 1.314 km section of Reach 2B connecting Kengeri Station – Challaghatta Station to open up in early 2023. Here’s a recent snap of Challaghatta Station where roof truss installation work has just started:

Don’t understand why 3 companies under railway ministry are bidding for same project.. govt should exit construction business n leave it to private sector

Hey ! I have a doubt. The new 42 Coaches from BEML, which BMRCL planned to run on their Yellow Line, run on DTG Signalling while Yellow Line is actually equipped with CBTC Signalling.. Since there is time till december, will BEML change the components from DTG to CBTC in the Underframe ??

Will be interesting to see how they’ll operate the trains. There will probably be zero automation. 7 is just not enough.

What is the scope of RITES & RVNL in this project. Do they take part in construction or act as a consultant?
