Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) this week invited tenders for civil construction contract AGCC07 of Agra Metro Phase 1’s 15.09 km Line-2 which will connect Agra Cantonment and Kalindi Vihar via 14 stations.

Its scope includes the entirety of Package AGCC-06 (Agra Cantt – Sanjay Place) which was abruptly scrapped by UPMRC in October 2023 and absorbed into Package AGCC-07.

At Agra College Station users will be able to interchange and switch over to the city’s 14.25 km Line-1 (Sikandra – Taj East Gate) where an underground station is under construction by Afcons – SAM India JV as part of Package AGCC-02.

SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India) in May 2022 was awarded this line and Kanpur Metro Line-2’s Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contract.

At 15.09 km, this is the longest civil package in India’s metro history after Hyderabad Metro’s 31 km Airport Express Line who’s contract was won by Larsen & Toubro in August 2023.

It narrowly beats Bangalore Metro Phase 2B’s 15.01 km Package 3. Other notably long packages across India include Bhopal Metro’s 12.915 km Package BH-05 for the entire Blue Line (Bhadbhada Chauraha – Ratnagiri Tiraha) and Mumbai Metro’s 12.81 km Package CA28 for the Orange Line’s western section (Kapurbawadi – Dhamankar Naka).

This is the 5th civil package of Agra Metro’s Phase 1 to enter the bidding stage. The only tender notice pending now is for Line-2’s Kalindi Vihar Depot in north-east Agra. See a list of all Phase 1 packages (civil & systems) and their status over here.

After looking at the Detailed design and drawings in the tender, i’m confidenr thay they’ve scrapped Kalindi Vihar depot to make way for a depot near PAC grounds only else no point of having 2.5km stretch without any station just to connect with Line 1 depot. As per tender drawing, there is 1 down line connecting it with current Line 1 depot and a switch over having UP & down curved lines lead to a nearby ground through a ramp. Also, Kalindi Vihar now has a dead end while other dead end is at Agra Cantt where it’s position has been changed keeping in view stations’s future development.

Interesting observations. The scope does include a ramp towards Kalindi Vihar Depot, so let’s see if they invite bids for its construction or not.

Looks stupid. If one is on a short visit to Agra just to see the Taj, he will most probably land up to Agra Cantt Railway Station. Now if he wants to use metro to visit Taj from AGC, he needs to go all the way to Agra College and then change then again all the way down to Taj West Gate, same on the return journey. This will waste a lot of time!

Atleast the biggest attraction of Agra/North India should have given best possible connections in Agra Metro.

Strongly agree with your thaughts. In PoV they should connect that short span also … Tajganj to Avanti Bai choraha .and thats a very short span can be construct on along side of Mall road.

The South Agra means Gwalior Road Madu Nagar Sewla also should be connected with PAC ground, so an alternative route can be developed from Taj Mahal to Agra Cantt via Rajpur Cungi via Ukhrra via Madu Nagar via Sultanpura and Agra Cantt

Tajmahal to Agra Cantt via Mall road is very short span but the purpose of Metro is not only purpose of connectivity of Stations and the local conveyance also good through Mall road. So it is good if connect Madu Nagar also in route of Taj Mahal to Agra Cantt

Isn’t the estimated cost at 1529 cr very low for 15 km or am i missing something?
