5 Bidders for Kanpur Metro Agriculture University Depot’s Contract KNPCC-14

Five civil engineering firms on Friday submitted bids for the civil construction and system installation work of Kanpur Metro Phase 1 project’s Agriculture University Depot & Workshop (Package KNPCC-14).

This train maintenance facility by Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) will be built on a 37.69 acre parcel within Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology.

It will house an undisclosed number of 3 coach Alstom MOVIA train-sets for Kanpur Metro’s 8.38 km Line-2 which will connect Agriculture University – Barra-8 via 8 stations (3 underground & 5 elevated).

Agricultural University Depot will be connected to the main-line via 4.3 km Package KNPCC-12’s 557.8m northern section (Ramp – Agriculture University) for which bidding is underway.

UPMRC had invited bids for the depot’s construction in November with a Rs. 113.20 crore estimate and 18 month construction deadline.

UPMRC’s Brief Scope: Civil, PEB and E&M works for construction of depot cum workshop, including structural, architectural, plumbing, drainage, external development, road works, electrical, mechanical, VAC, fire fighting, fire detection etc. at Agricultural University Kanpur for Agricultural University to Barra-8 Corridor-2 of Kanpur Metro

The bids have now been sent for technical evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.

KSM Bashir Mohammad and Sons had built Kanpur Metro Line-1’s Polytechnic Depot, Lisha Engineers just wrapped up work on Agra Metro’s PAC Depot, while Quality Buildcon is currently working on Patna Metro’s New ISBT Depot.

Kanpur Metro’s Line-2 is an extremely short line, so I imagine UPMRC will stable only 8-10 train-sets at this depot.

With this development, Package KNPCC-12 with 5 elevated stations is the only major civil package of Phase 1 and Line-2 which is still accepting bids. Bids for its construction in 2 disjointed sections were invited in November and the current technical bid opening date is January 9, 2024.
