5 Bidders for Chennai Metro Line-5’s E&M Contract EM-03
Five firms have bid for Chennai Metro Line-5’s electrical & mechanical (E&M), fire protection, ventilation and air-conditioning contract C5-EM-03 after Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL) opened technical bids on Thursday.
This mostly-elevated 44.6 km long line of Chennai Metro’s 116.1 km Phase 2 project will run in a north-south orientation to connect Madhavaram Milk Colony – Sholinganallur.
This contract’s scope includes system works at 10 elevated stations, 6 underground stations, underground tunnels between Kolathur – Nathamuni stations, and viaduct between Madhavaram Milk Colony – Grain Marker (Koyambedu Market) stations. The underground section is under construction by Tata Projects under Package UG-06, while the elevated section is under construction by Larsen & Toubro under Package C5-EV-03.
CMRL had invited tenders for this crucial contract in August 2023 with an unknown estimate and 1910 day (5.2 year) completion deadline.

CMRL’s Brief Scope: Supply, Installation, Testing, Commissiong and Training of Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, VAC Works and BMS system From Madhavaram Milk Colony Station (Excluding) CH 76.000 to Grain Market Station (Excluding) CH 16399.716 for Corridor-5 of Chennai Metro Rail Project, Phase-II
The bids have now been sent for technical bid evaluation which can take a couple months to complete. When that is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to reveal who’s the lowest bidder and most likely contractor.
This is Line-5’s second E&M package after C5-EM-04 which was awarded to Voltas in December 2023. CMRL is chipping away at system contracts, but the contract I’m most closing following is for Line-3 and Line-5’s 210 coach rolling stock (Package ARE-02) – the current technical bid opening date has been rescheduled to March 22, 2024.

Pathetic planning on Chennai metro! Villivakkam should have been connected via annanagar at first itself so that places like avadi n ambattur are also connected from airport or koyambedu… Most of the stations N lines made parallel to existing suburban rail which is duplicacy!
