J Kumar Lowest Bidder for Mumbai Metro’s Dahisar – DN Nagar Line-2A

As per various industry sources, J Kumar Infraprojects – CRTG JV has emerged as the lowest bidder for constructing both packages of the elevated 18.6 km Dahisar – DN Nagar section of Mumbai Metro’s Line-2 (Yellow Line)!

To recap this line’s history: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation was entrusted with executing this line in December 2015 and had invited bids from infrastructure companies for constructing two elevated sections in January:

• Package 1: Contract: DMRC/MU/LINE2/AC/01
Contract Value: Rs. 640.86 crore

Part design and construction of viaduct and 8 elevated stations at Anand Nagar, Rushi Sankul, I C Colony, Eksar, Don Bosco, Shimpoli, Mahavir Nagar and Kamraj Nagar (excluding architectural finishing and pre-engineered steel roof structure of stations) from chainage 192.5m to 8292.178 m (i.e. end of Kamraj Nagar station, DN Nagar end) of Dahisar (East) – D N Nagar Corridor of Mumbai Metro Rail Project

• Package 2: Contract: DMRC/MU/LINE2/AC/02
Contract Value: Rs. 704.06 crore

Part design and construction of elevated viaduct and 8 elevated stations at Charkop, Malad Metro, Kasturi Park, Bangur Nagar, Goregaon, Adarsh Nagar, Shastri Nagar and DN Nagar (excluding architectural finishing and pre-engineered steel roof structure) from chainage 8292.178 ((i.e. end of Kamraj Nagar station, DN Nagar end) to 18189.020 including viaduct & ramp for depot entry of Dahisar (East) – D N Nagar Corridor of Mumbai Metro Rail Project.

Here’s a map which shows the scope of both packages:

AECOM was recently awarded the Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contract for this line.

While the northernmost station in the scope of package 1 is Anand Nagar, the line will eventually terminate at the Dahisar East station which will serve as an interchange with the Dahisar (E) – Andheri (E) line (shown in red above). Construction of that small connection between Anand Nagar and Dahisar (E) is included within the scope of the Dahisar (E) – Andheri (E) line for which NCC Limited was appointed as the contractor in April. Besides NCC, J Kumar & Simplex will build other sections of that line – view details here.

J Kumar’s bids will now be vetted and presented to the MMRDA’s Executive Committee for its approval which I expect would come through within two weeks. Construction for both the DN Nagar – Dahisar & Dahisar (E) – Andheri (E) lines are now on track to begin once the monsoons subside in August-end. 😀

According to Times of India, On April 27, the BMC filed a case at the Azad Maidan police station against Relcon Infra, R K Madhani, J Kumar, RPS Infra, Mahavir and K R Construction.
Corruption is on its highest level in BMC.

How can these blacklisted companies get any metro contracts is beyond my understanding
