GRIL Launches Bangalore Metro Phase 2 & Pink Line’s Final Segment

GR Infraprojects (GRIL) on Friday morning celebrated launching their final precast segment for the 7.5 km Dairy Circle Ramp – Kalena Agrahara section of Bangalore Metro’s Pink Line (Reach 6).

The team recorded this major milestone for the line’s viaduct on Bannerghatta Road just south of Jayadeva Metro Station. This development completes segment launching activities for the 21.386 km Pink Line (Kalena Agaraha – Nagawara) and the entire 73.92 km Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project which comprises of several elevated sections across 4 lines (Purple, Green, Yellow & Pink) totaling roughly 60 km.

The civil construction contract for Reach 6’s elevated section was originally awarded to Simplex Infrastructures in September 2017 with a 27 month deadline. Following poor progress, the contract was terminated and re-tendered out, which resulted in GR Infraprojects getting awarded a Rs. 364.87 crore contract in August 2021 with a 21 month deadline.

GRIL’s team had started launching segments in Arekere neighborhood in November 2021 and primarily used 8.5 meter wide girders with weights varying between 38 and 42 tons.

This section’s five stations are located at Kalena Agrahara (formerly Gottigere), Hulimavu, IIM-B, JP Nagar 4th Phase, and Tavarekere (formerly Swagath Road). Jayadeva Interchange comes under HCC – URCC JV‘s purview.

As I mentioned above, this milestone also marks the completion of all segment launching activity for the entire 73.92 km Bangalore Metro Phase 2 project. The very first segment was launched by IL&FS Engineering in January 2017 for the Purple Line’s 3.945 km Reach 2A connecting Mysore Road – Pattanagere stations.

The Green Line’s 3.031 km Reach 3C (Nagasandra – Madavara) is next in line to become operational this year. Simplex Infrastructure had launched that section’s final segment in April 2023.

The final segment for 19.14 km Yellow Line or Reach 5 (RV Road – Bommasandra), where trial runs have been underway since March 2022, was launched by HCC – URCC JV in September 2022.

@TMRG – Small Typo in the post, I believe you meant Mar 2024 here?
