HCC – KEC JV Wins Chennai Metro Phase 2’s Contract for Line-5
Besides L&T winning two contracts, the Hindustan Construction Company – KEC International (HCC-KEC) JV on Monday also won a contract for the construction work of Chennai Metro Phase 2’s 47 km Line-5.
The consortium emerged as the lowest bidder for the 11.61 km Puzhuthivakkam – Sholinganallur section (Package C5-ECV-03) which consists of 11 stations at the extreme southern end of Line-5 (Madhavaram – Sholinganallur).
CMRL invited tenders for this package’s construction in November 2020 with an undisclosed estimate and 36 month deadline. Technical bids were opened in June-end to reveal 3 bidders.
Financial Bid Values:
|Firm||Bid (Rs. Crore)|
Tender: CMRL/PHASE II/CORRIDOR 5/C5-ECV-03
Brief Scope: Construction of Elevated Viaduct of Approximately 11.61 km length from Ch: 33710 m to 45320 m between Puzhuthivakkam Metro Station (excluding) and beyond Elcot Metro station including Construction of 11 Nos (Eleven Numbers) of Elevated Stations at Madipakkam, Kilkattalai, Echangadu, Kovilambakkam, Vellakkal, Medavakkam Koot Road, Kamaraj Garden Street, Medavakkam Junction, Perumbakkam, Global Hospital and Elcot and all associated works in Corridor-5 of Chennai Metro Rail Project- Phase-2
CMRL’s estimate for this package is unknown, so I can’t really provide an assessment of how HCC – KEC’s bid is placed and the chances of it getting awarded. If awarded, this will be their second win after Line-4’s 7.945 km Porur – Poonamallee Bypass section where work began in May.
With this development, here’s a status of all civil packages on Line-5 (north to south). Financial bids for just 1 more package (UG6) are left to be opened and you already know who’s going to be L1.
|Package CP10-EV-03 – 10.2 km viaduct, 11 elevated stations and 1 underground station between CMBT and Venugopal Nagar||L&T is lowest bidder|
|Package UG6 – 5.8 km underground section with 5 stations from Kolathur and Nathamuni||Technical Bid Evaluation Underway: L&T is only bidder|
|Package C5-ECV-02 – 12.431 km elevated section from CMBT to Alwartiru Nagar and from Porur Junction to Puzhuthivakkam with 12 stations||L&T is lowest bidder|
|Line-4 & 5: Package C4-ECV-01 – 7.955 km elevated section from Power House to Porur Junction with 9 stations||Awarded to Larsen & Toubro|
|Package C5-ECV-03 – 11.61 km elevated section with 11 stations from Puzhuthivakkam to Sholinganallur||HCC – KEC JV is lowest bidder (this post!)|

Any update on land acquisition issue in Nanmangalam reserved forest land? Any judgment made?
Hi – I don’t actively track land acquisition, but see that approval is still pending.
Original proposal was submitted in April and hard-copies in August. Check out: http://forestsclearance.nic.in/timeline.aspx?pid=FP/TN/RAIL/141594/2021
Thank you TMRG,
Will they be awarding more than one bid for any organization? I remembered reading CMRL planned to award only one bid per company in a corridor
I don’t see any stipulations for Line-5’s elevated packages. They had this clause in place for Line-3’s tunneling works and Line-4’s elevated sections.
Woah three contracts awarded I’m three days! More underground package is pending which will also go to l&t for sure
Just the financial bids have been opened. Contract award is pending.
Tata projects started shifting of utility works in purasaiwalkam high road in corridor 3!
Video will be uploaded about that in my channel on 7.9.2021. (Thaanish diaries YouTube channel)
Super thaanish. Way to go!
Sorry, on 8.9 2021 or 9.9.2021
Any update on the final track route between cmbt to alwarthirunagar?
L&t is the contractor
Bro, CM of Karnataka has recently talked about reviving High Speed Airport Express in Bengaluru. Can you please make a separate section for it if it is actually revived..
It’s super unlikely. They’re already building the metro AND suburban rail to the airport. Doesn’t make any sense to build a third rail line.
Agreed! There’s currently no serious proposal in place and likely never will be for the next 20 years.
I would prefer it if the tender is awarded and work started on P2B Airport line first. We can definitely consider the other options later
Where are the L&T jokes now? Looks like others are bagging contracts as well!
It’s not that they are begging for contact. They gave up and not even applying and L&T becoming only bidder
Above video link is about the construction work at purasaiwakkam.
What is the status for mumbai metro line 11 GPO to wadala underground section?

What is the status of MRTS line extension and merging with metr?. Please update.
