HCC – KEC JV Wins Chennai Metro Phase 2’s Contract for Line-5

Besides L&T winning two contracts, the Hindustan Construction Company – KEC International (HCC-KEC) JV on Monday also won a contract for the construction work of Chennai Metro Phase 2’s 47 km Line-5.

The consortium emerged as the lowest bidder for the 11.61 km Puzhuthivakkam – Sholinganallur section (Package C5-ECV-03) which consists of 11 stations at the extreme southern end of Line-5 (Madhavaram – Sholinganallur).

CMRL invited tenders for this package’s construction in November 2020 with an undisclosed estimate and 36 month deadline. Technical bids were opened in June-end to reveal 3 bidders.

CMRL’s estimate for this package is unknown, so I can’t really provide an assessment of how HCC – KEC’s bid is placed and the chances of it getting awarded. If awarded, this will be their second win after Line-4’s 7.945 km Porur – Poonamallee Bypass section where work began in May.

With this development, here’s a status of all civil packages on Line-5 (north to south). Financial bids for just 1 more package (UG6) are left to be opened and you already know who’s going to be L1.

    Thank you TMRG,
Will they be awarding more than one bid for any organization? I remembered reading CMRL planned to award only one bid per company in a corridor

I don’t see any stipulations for Line-5’s elevated packages. They had this clause in place for Line-3’s tunneling works and Line-4’s elevated sections.

Bro, CM of Karnataka has recently talked about reviving High Speed Airport Express in Bengaluru. Can you please make a separate section for it if it is actually revived..

It’s super unlikely. They’re already building the metro AND suburban rail to the airport. Doesn’t make any sense to build a third rail line.

I would prefer it if the tender is awarded and work started on P2B Airport line first. We can definitely consider the other options later
