Pune Metro Phase 1 – Information, Route Map, Fares, Tenders & Updates

31.254 km Pune Metro Phase 1 project’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) with 2 metro lines and 29 stations was prepared & submitted by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in July 2009, revised in January 2013, August 2014, and finally once again in November 2015 to reflect current prices.

Although the State Government approved the project in 2012, it had run into red tape, politics and opposition from local NGOs & activists over its mostly elevated nature. The project received a final approval from the Union Government’s Cabinet on December 7, 2016.

In January 2017, Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (NMRCL) was renamed to Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (Maha-Metro) to execute Pune Metro’s Phase 1 project.

Construction work on Pune Metro Phase 1’s 9.25 km first section (PCMC – Range Hills) started in August 2017 by NCC Ltd. Commercial operations on the first 2 sections of Phase 1 were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 6, 2022. The final section (District Court – Swargate) was inaugurated on September 29 2024.
