MMRDA Publishes Mumbai Metro Red Line-7’s Station Names

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Friday invited bids from architectural detailing firms for external facade works at 12 stations of the 16.5 km Mumbai Metro Line-7 (Red Line) which’ll connect Dahisar East and Andheri East neighborhoods through 14 elevated stations on the Western Express Highway.

The tender notice for it contains a list of Line-7’s finalized station names that have changed and modified over the years, some for the better or worse.

Some of these names were revealed in February 2020 when MMRDA revealed Mumbai Metro’s line colours in an effort to establish branding and style guidelines with assistance from Systra MVA Consulting.

MMRDA/MMRP/CA-99A: External Facade Works for 4 Elevated Stations viz: Gundavali, Mogra, Jogeshwari (East), Goregaon (East) of line 7 (Andheri East to Dahisar East) of Mumbai Metro Rail Project of MMRDA

MMRDA/MMRP/CA-99B: External Facade Works for 4 Elevated Stations viz: Aarey, Dindoshi, Kurar and Poisar of line 7 (Andheri East to Dahisar East) of Mumbai Metro Rail Project of MMRDA

MMRDA/MMRP/CA-99C: External Facade Works for 4 Elevated Stations viz: Magathane, Devipada, Rashtriya Udyan and Ovaripada of line 7 (Andheri East to Dahisar East) of Mumbai Metro Rail Project of MMRDA

Last date to submit bids is June 24, 2020. If no issues arise or the bidding dates aren’t extended like they have been, multiple times, by all operators due to COVID-19 across India, then facade works can be expected to start in Q4 2020.

Back in April 2016, MMRDA awarded civil construction contracts to J Kumar Infraprojects, Simplex Infrastructures and NCC to build a total of 16 stations for Line-7.

Since then, the number has reduced to 14 through a consolidation of stations possibly affected by land acquisition issues. Also – Simplex’s contract got terminated in January 2020 due to tardy progress, with J Kumar getting awarded a contract for the remaining viaduct work and NCC for the remaining station work.

Line-7 (Red Line) Route Map

It’ll be interesting to see if Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd. (MMOPL) – the operator of Line-1, in which MMRDA has a 26% stake, will rename its Western Express Highway Station to Gundavali Station to match up and avoid confusion to riders on the network.

Facade works for Dahisar East Station (interchange for the 18.6 km Line-2A / Yellow Line) are expected to be a part of a different tender notice.

Exterior and interior finishing works at Akurli Station (formerly Bandongri) have been ongoing since at least June 2019. Here are some recent images I shared in a different post and on Twitter in the prior weeks –

More images of Akurli Station, its design render and walkthrough video can be viewed here. MMRDA or its assigned architectural design firms haven’t indicated whether the rest 13 stations will look like Akurli or not. Stay tuned to find out!

TMRG. any updates of the Depot for the Mumbai Metro Pink Line? There are many confusions related to the depot for the Mumbai Metro Pink Line. Some sources are saying that the depot will built at Kanjurmarg and some are telling that the depot will built at Goregaon. Any updates on that.?

I think if I am right POISAR as a place, comes after Magathane. So, naming M&M after POISAR is incongruent, I feel. Ur comments, pl. M&M name was apt.

What are the things actually remaining pending in the 7A line?

Can this line commence operation by 1 April 2021?
What will be the likely fare from M&M to Andheri?

Can u please publish a PDF of the map from Bhayander to CUFFE PARADE, or at least from Dahisar to Airport?, eventhough it would not be an official map.

Where do we get the entire MUMBAI metro updated map in pdf form? Can u do it on your own, for us?

    Thanks
