Information

Delhi – Meerut RRTS (RapidX) is an 82.15 km partly operational and under-construction semi-high speed rail line with 22 stations connecting Delhi – Ghaziabad – Meerut through a series of tunnels and elevated viaducts as part of Delhi’s Regional Rapid Transit System.

Delhi Meerut RRTS (RapidX) project’s Priority Corridor was inaugurated on October 20, 2023. It opened to passengers and started commercial operations on October 21, 2023. This 17 km section connects Sahibabad – Duhai via 4 elevated stations.

The line will be operated and maintained (O&M) by DB RRTS Operations India Pvt Ltd. for a period of 12 years through a Rs. 1493.08 crore contract awarded in May 2022.

The line is one of the three early bird (Phase 1) lines to be developed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) where trains will run up to a maximum speed of 160 km/hr to cover the entire distance in 1 hour.

Within Meerut city, DB Bahn will run Meerut Metro services on the RRTS’ infrastructure. This will be done by taking some value engineering initiatives and by building 8 dedicated metro-only stations.

Delhi Meerut RRTS line’s DPR (Detailed Project Report) for construction was approved by the Uttar Pradesh State government in May 2017 and received the Government of India’s approval in February 2019. India’s Prime Minister laid its foundation stone in March 2019.

During construction, a total of 7 tunnel boring machines (TBMs) were deployed – 4 TBMs by STEC and 3 TBMs by Afcons Infrastructure.
